Child Safety Standards

The Gen is an adults-only community. These standards set out our zero-tolerance approach to child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and apply to everyone who uses The Gen app and services, operated by the team at thegen.app.

Zero tolerance of child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE)

The Gen strictly prohibits any content or behaviour that sexualises, abuses, exploits, or endangers children. This includes, without limitation:

  • Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form: images, video, audio, text, links, or live content
  • Grooming: contacting, befriending, or building trust with a minor for sexual purposes
  • Sextortion, trafficking, or any solicitation involving a minor
  • Sexualised depictions or descriptions of minors, real or simulated, including AI-generated content
  • Any attempt to arrange contact with a minor for sexual purposes

Violation of these standards results in immediate account termination and, where required or appropriate, reporting to law enforcement and relevant child-safety authorities.

An 18+ platform with identity verification

The Gen is strictly for adults aged 18 and over:

  • Every member must pass identity document verification and a live face check before they can access the community, not a self-declared date of birth.
  • Accounts that cannot verify their age are never granted access to other members.
  • Age limits are enforced server-side across signup and matching.

Detection, moderation, and enforcement

  • In-app reporting: any member can report another member, message, or session from inside the app. Reports are reviewed promptly by our moderation team.
  • In-app blocking: members can block anyone, immediately and mutually removing each other from all discovery and matching.
  • Moderation: our team reviews reported content and behaviour and takes enforcement action up to permanent removal.
  • User-hosted events are reviewed and approved by our team before they become visible to anyone.

Reporting to authorities

When we identify or are made aware of apparent CSAM or CSAE activity, we:

  • preserve and report it to the relevant authorities, in the UK, the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and law enforcement; internationally, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), as applicable;
  • terminate the accounts involved;
  • cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement investigating child safety offences.

Compliance

The Gen complies with applicable child safety laws in the regions where we operate, including the UK Online Safety Act and, for distribution, the Google Play Child Safety Standards policy and Apple App Store guidelines.
